Elk Grove - Florin Amateur Radio Club Meeting Minutes
for March 8, 2014
Board Meeting called to order at 6:15p.m. Quoram present
1: Minutes of the February meeting were read and approved.
2: Treasurers report was given via Brandon. We have $798.10 in the checking. We purchased 2 RV sites and 2 tent sites for the upcoming field day at the cost of $200.00
3: Arnold states that there are still some outstanding dues to be collected.
4: We discussed future topics for the meetings. A potential “parking lot fox hunt” is one choice. This will be discussed as a possibility for May as we need more evening light. Another topic is “introduction to Transmitters”. At the June meeting we will be finalizing the details for the Field Day.
5: Brandon has agreed to take notes for me in April as I will be on vacation.
6: Unf. Business: Arnold states that he has run into a brick wall in respects to the Running of the Elk marathon. Bonnie has volunteered to contact someone she knows who might be able to help.
7: Unf. Business: Dennis is gong to do more research on the mailing of postcards to hams in the area to generate more interest in the club. He will be researching cost and areas to target.
8: New Business: Dues issue…a motion was made by Steve, 2nd by Arnold that new members joining partially through the year will pay $5.00 for a full or partial quarter for the remainder of the calendar year. The calendar year quarters are described as Feb/Mar/Apr($20.00); May/June/July($15.00); Aug/Sept/Oct($10.00); and Nov/Dec/Jan($5.00). Board vote was unanimous.
9: Dennis is selling raffle tickets for the Sacramento Amateur Radio Club to assist them is recouping monetary losses due to tax/IRS issues.

2: Treasurers report given via Brandon. It is reported that we have $798.10 in the checking account. We reserved 2 RV sites and 2 tent sites for the upcoming Field Day in June at the cost of $200.00.
3: Arnold states that there are still some outstanding dues to be paid .
4: Mother Lode DX has invited our members to their club to listen to an expedition on March 22, 2014. The meeting is at Max’s Restaurant in Auburn, Ca. RSVP. Cost is $18.
6: There is a Valley of the Moon ham fest on April 26, 2014 at the Sonora Veterans Building from 8-12noon. The cost is $8.00.
7: Field Day update—Per Bonnie, we were too late for reserving 3 rv sites but we did get 2 and 2 tent sites. We are limited to 6 vehicles. If we get an actual headcount for that day we may be able to get more vehicles in at a cost of $10 a vehicle if you are under 65 or $8.00 a vehicle if you are over 65. We can also consider carpooling in from the main gate. Bonnie has a signup sheet for members to sign up on as to what they would like to do that day in regards to radios. Friday is set up day of camp sites only. Sat at 9:00am we will start the set up with take down on Sunday at 11am. She also has a list for the ARRL commemorative t-shirts and hats if you are interested. Shirts are $12.95 and hats are $9.95. The date for Field Day is June 28-29, 20014.
8: Sacramento Amatuer Radio Club is selling raffle tickets to raise funds. See Dennis for tickets. They are raffling off a 2m/20m radio and a couple of Texas Roadhouse gift certificates. Tickets are 1 for $1 and 6 for $5.
10: Arnold has run into a brick wall in regards to the Running of the Elk Marathon. No one will get back to him and he doesn’t want to push them. Bonnie says she may be able to get info from a contact she has. Arnold did say that there is a 10mile bike ride in Elk Grove that he is going to check into that would be perfect for us.
11: Arnold brought in some APRS trackers for the group to look at that he uses for bike races and other events.
12: April 26th is a Community Day of Service in the Mack Road area and Brandon said they would like about 30 hams for the event. This event looks to spruce up the neighborhoods and businesses with cleanup, painting, planting and things of the sort. See Brandon for more details.
13: Pam has asked that we possibly change the format of our Christmas Potluck this year. We need to make it more interesting with maybe a raffle or maybe asking other clubs to join us.
14: Dwayne displayed a mini computer b ox that “does it all”. It is foreign and is a “Solid Run Cuvox Pro”.
15: Fred and Dwayne put on a digital mode presentation. They discussed the differences between the PSK-3 and the MT-63. They had 2 computer/radio stations set up and proceeded to send messages back and forth to each other.
